Learning Buddies
Recruiting Volunteers

Have you ever wondered where you’d be right now if you couldn’t read? Would you have a good job? Or would you feel hopelessly stuck with no way to fulfill your dreams?

Compassionate Justice will partner with South Avondale Elementary School to offer the Learning Buddies program. Learning Buddies will assist children with reading and spelling; showing them how much fun learning can be! We’ll also demonstrate how much Jesus loves them!

What better future could these children have than this; experiencing God's love for them while learning to read? But we can’t do this alone. We need 24 or more volunteers to bless the students of Avondale.

Here’s what you need to know:

  When: Tuesdays & Thursdays 2:15 – 4:15
Start Date: Training on September 24th
Followed by tutoring from October thru May
  Where:       South Avondale Elementary School
                        636 Prospect Place, Cincinnati 45229

Learning Buddy Qualifications:
  • Heartfelt desire to help children improve their reading proficiencies
  • Be available most Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons from 2:15 to 4:15 pm during the 2024-2025 school year
  • Attend required training

Pathway to Thriving

Discover Your Purpose
Fulfill Your Dreams
In partnership with South Avondale Elementary School and Rockdale Academy, Compassionate Justice is recruiting volunteers to mentor students as they discover their identity in Christ and learn how to pursue their dreams.  The Pathway to Thriving afterschool program will serve 5th and 6th grade boys and girls!  This ten week program will be offered in two elementary schools beginning in January 2025.

Rockdale Academy students on Wednesdays from 2:15 to 4:15 pm beginning January 8th

South Avondale Elementary students on Thursdays from 2:15 to 4:15 pm beginning January 9th

Orientation will be held January 7th from 10:00 to 12:30

The students will be engaged with experiential learning lessons, group discussions, opportunities to experience a new skill, and two field trips. During the program, each student will learn about the unique ways God created them and begin to discover their purpose and dreams for a thriving future!

Mentor qualifications are easy:
  • Instill the joy of learning, while demonstrating God's love
  • A friendly spirit that brings smiles and encouragement to children and their families
  • Attend required orientation and training
  • Be available for all dates and times
  • Humbly serve with a teachable heart and follow the program design as instructed
  • Follow student safety protocols
  • Pass a background check

Compassion Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available for both skilled and unskilled individuals. Most of the outreaches are “family friendly”.  And we invite parents to involve their children and students as they exemplify how to “love their neighbor”!  Everyone works at their own pace with the goals to:

•   Glorify God
•   Demonstrate our love for the community
•  Develop high quality relationships with co-workers and community residents
•   Enjoy serving together
•   Work to accomplish the project priorities

When: Second Saturday each month from 8:45 am to 1:00 pm (lunch included)

Every month on the second Saturday, CJ organizes outreaches in Avondale to serve individuals and families as well as some institutions (i.e. schools, churches, public spaces).  The outreaches include projects such as house maintenance (i.e. painting, etc.) and yard maintenance (i.e. pruning, weeding, mulching, etc.).  We collaborate with a number of churches from the community as well as civic organizations.  Our goal is to help carry the burdens of individuals and families which are too heavy for them to carry on their own (Galatians 6:2)!

We Promote a Christ Centered World View!

Compassionate Justice and our partners are guided by Biblical truth.  We incorporate Bible stories, prayer, and spiritual discussions within all of our programs.  We hope each participant will experience God's amazing love and grow closer to Jesus during their experience!
